MBA HR Update: New Version of Form I-9

New Version of Form I-9 Now Available – Prior Version May Be Used Until January 21, 2017

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a revised version of Form I-9 on November 14, 2016.  Although employers may begin using the newly revised Form I-9 immediately, employers are also permitted to use the previous version (03/08/13 edition) until January 21, 2017.  Starting January 22, 2017, however, employers must use the newly revised Form I-9.

The USCIS has made the newly revised Form I-9 available in a version with fields that may be completed using a computer (but which must be printed and signed and dated by hand) and which includes features such as clickable instruction icons and drop-down calendars which may help limit errors by those entering data into the form.   It is also available as a version that is unfillable using a computer and must be printed for completion on paper only.  Both versions as well as instructions for completing Form I-9 are available on the USCIS website and may be accessed at here.

If you currently complete Form I-9 in paper format, you may begin using the newly revised Form I-9 immediately or wait until January 22, 2017.

If you use MBA’s electronic onboarding portal for completing Form I-9, the newly revised version will be available on MBA’s electronic onboarding portal on or before January 22, 2017.
